my approach
Hey there! I’m so glad you found me!
While I love being a therapist and working on big, heavy issues with clients, the part I love most about what I do is getting the opportunity to work with and mentor new clinicians, either with interns just entering the field or with recent graduates seeking licensure. I’ve spent over 20 years supervising other clinicians on their licensure journey, and I’m thrilled that you’re considering me to accompany you on yours.
I believe that supervision is just as much about developing the self of the therapist as it is about developing and enhancing therapeutic skills, ethical decision-making skills, and professional identity. Much like my clinical practice, I largely draw on Person-Centered and Feminist models of supervision to help you grow both personally and professionally.
What does that mean?
Person-Centered Supervision is much like Person-Centered Therapy in that I believe that the success of supervision lies within the relationship that you and I build together. I believe that you are capable of becoming a great clinician provided that you have the right guidance. Rather than seeing myself as the expert, I see myself more as collaborator with you in helping you develop the clinical tools and self-reflection needed to be an effective clinician. In supervision with me, I follow your lead and expect you to bring issues to discuss to each session. And if you don’t, well, we’ll just sit there in silence until you do bring something up. There’s nothing like a little experiential learning to drive a point home!
The Feminist Model of Supervision is based upon the idea that we are all shaped by the political and social forces at play around us, and that we bring those forces into the clinical arena with us when we show up to work with clients. It assumes that clients, also, are the products of these influences and that much of their clinical issues arise as a result of the society in which we live and their role in it, be it gender identity, race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion, or other areas of their lives. Within this lens, we will explore power differentials at play in your work with clients as well as within our own relationship that impact how you show up to do your job.
we’ll focus on:
clinical skills
+ Assessment skills
+ treatment planning
+ intervention skills
+ assessment & management of
suicidal behaviors
+ boundaries & countertransference
+ power differentials
+ CLINICAL DOCUMENTATION
professional issues
+ ethical dilemmas
+ legal aspects of practice
+ professional standards
+ professional development
+ PROFESSIONAL IDENTITY
+ ORGANIZATIONAL ISSUES
+ political & legislative issues
that impact practice
AND MORE!
“Stephanie leads with compassion. In supervision I feel equally accepted, challenged, and supported. She has assisted me in finding my voice as a clinician, and I know that my clients are better served due to her impact on my practice.”
